Picking the Clubs

I started this blog to track my golf progress through the year, mostly in hopes of it motivating me to do better. I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a good golfer. I love to play, but don't do it much because of family, work, the usual. I have played off and on for about 5 years, but never invested the time in it to help me break 100. Something had to change or I should give up the game.

For my birthday, I decided to get rid of the clubs I had (knock-off Pings) and go for some true game improvement clubs. Game improvement clubs have fatter bottoms, so that they act almost like hybrids, and larger sweet spots, so they are more forgiving and allow you to enjoy the game long enough to get good at playing it. I went to Edwin Watts Golf, looked around at their selection, hit some clubs, saw some that I liked, but walked out empty-handed. I looked online at Rock Bottom Golf, found a few of the clubs that I liked, as well, but also closed the site without purchasing. Ultimately, I went to Dick's. I asked the attendant for clubs I can hit, given my relatively novice status, told him how much I'd like to pay, and he pointed me to a set that I had actually hit at Edwin Watts a few days before.

So, I am the proud owner of a set of TaylorMade Burner SuperLaunch Irons. They feel good, they look good and they are classified as "Super Game Improvement" irons. So, the golf season starts and we will see where this goes.

I know my flaws: I drop my shoulder, I pull off the ball, I cannot drive the ball, my grip, my short game, and the list just goes on from there. I want to play well. And, starting this year, I will work at it. Hopefully, this blog will provide motivation. And I hope to bring some of you along for the ride.
