So, I wanted to recap what I have gotten so far this year for my golf expedition:
TaylorMade Burner SuperLaunch irons (4-AW)
TaylorMade Burner 5-wood
Nike Slingshot 4 Hybrid (Keith gave it to me)
New golf outfit
Set of new balls
Practice ball on a rope (get on if you can find it. It is fantastic)
And, most important, a new attitude. I feel good about tomorrow. Thanks to my new practice routine (everyday, I hit balls), I am getting loft, hitting it straighter with my irons, turning through on the shot. Things are shaping up for my lesson Tuesday. And, then, Lisa goes out of town for a week. I am going to play Bear's Best, Lakemont, the Manor and Echelon in the first five days. I may even add the Frog to catch up with my old friend, Adam. That would be five rounds in five days, but I think I can handle it. Thus far, I really am enjoying this adventure.

CountryLand Golf Club

Keith (co-worker; you will get to know him throughout this blog) and I went to Cumming on Memorial Day weekend to get the golf season started. While this is no championship course, it was a outing.
Highlights:
Keith hit it off the tee straight and far all day long.
I made a par on a par 4, which I had never done, and did so from about 25 feet putting off the fringe.
I drove the ball 250 and straight as an arrow. I need to practice my drives the most.
Keith shot a 96; I shot a 110. That is 4 over double-bogey golf, which is not bad. And, I basically picked up where I had left off two years ago, which was nice.
Overall, it was a good day.
Picking the Clubs
I started this blog to track my golf progress through the year, mostly in hopes of it motivating me to do better. I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a good golfer. I love to play, but don't do it much because of family, work, the usual. I have played off and on for about 5 years, but never invested the time in it to help me break 100. Something had to change or I should give up the game.
For my birthday, I decided to get rid of the clubs I had (knock-off Pings) and go for some true game improvement clubs. Game improvement clubs have fatter bottoms, so that they act almost like hybrids, and larger sweet spots, so they are more forgiving and allow you to enjoy the game long enough to get good at playing it. I went to Edwin Watts Golf, looked around at their selection, hit some clubs, saw some that I liked, but walked out empty-handed. I looked online at Rock Bottom Golf, found a few of the clubs that I liked, as well, but also closed the site without purchasing. Ultimately, I went to Dick's. I asked the attendant for clubs I can hit, given my relatively novice status, told him how much I'd like to pay, and he pointed me to a set that I had actually hit at Edwin Watts a few days before.
So, I am the proud owner of a set of TaylorMade Burner SuperLaunch Irons. They feel good, they look good and they are classified as "Super Game Improvement" irons. So, the golf season starts and we will see where this goes.
I know my flaws: I drop my shoulder, I pull off the ball, I cannot drive the ball, my grip, my short game, and the list just goes on from there. I want to play well. And, starting this year, I will work at it. Hopefully, this blog will provide motivation. And I hope to bring some of you along for the ride.
